The Syracuse women’s ice hockey team begins the season at Colgate on Wednesday, October 1. In the days leading up to the first contest, learn more about the team on suathletics.com.
Junior Gabrielle Beaudry, a 5’ 7" defenseman from nearby Cortland, transferred to Syracuse after skating for Boston College last season. As an Eagle, Beaudry tallied three assists and registered 26 shots on net.
The Orange will play 13 home games in 2008-09. The majority of SU’s home contests will be held at the Tennity Ice Skating Pavilion, but the Orange will be featured in at least two games at the Onondaga County War Memorial in downtown Syracuse. The remaining 17 games will be on the road.
The Orange will be part of the College Hockey America (CHA) league, which was founded in 1999. The league includes Mercyhurst, Niagara, Robert Morris and Wayne State. SU will play each of the four conference opponents four times this season.
Learn more about Beaudry, a marketing management major, in the first edition of "Meet the Original Orange."
What is your attitude and outlook for Syracuse’s first season ever?
I want us to become a team that can improve Syracuse athletics on and off the ice through hard work and dedication. I want to further Syracuse’s reputation of excellence. Also, I would like to be able to come watch Syracuse win a national championship after I am gone and look back on my two years here and say I helped mold the building blocks for that success.
When you’re not on the ice or in the classroom, you are…
Wishing I was playing with my two jack russels, Gunner and Harley.
What is your favorite spot on SU’s campus?
Tennity Ice Pavilion.
I bet you’d never guess THIS about me…
My tongue is an eighth of an inch shorter than the world record and I danced until I was 18.
What is your fondest hockey experience?
Winning a national championship for the U-16 level with the Syracuse Stars and winning the Beanpot Tournament in triple overtime for Boston College.
Besides hockey, I could probably beat you in…
Whatever I set my mind to.
You’ll hear this playing on my "Pre-Game Pump-Up" List…
Anything country or Britney Spears.
What is your ideal pre-game meal?
Whatever the team gets us but I like to have something sweet like gum or a starburst right before the drop of the puck.
My aspiration as a member of the Original Orange is…
To have two years experience that I can look back on and be proud of and to create a team where hard work and trust creates ground work for great success. I will give it everything I have every day and grow as a hockey player as well as a person.
