SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's ice hockey team will make its first road trip of the season to Schenectady, N.Y. for a two-game series with Union this weekend. The Orange will face off against the Dutchwomen on Friday (Oct. 22) and Saturday (Oct. 23) at Messa Rink. The puck will drop at 3 p.m. for both games.
Union is 1-3 this season with its only win coming against Sacred Heart last weekend. The Dutchwomen lost to New Hampshire, 4-1, on Oct. 16, a Wildcat team that the Orange defeated, 4-2, just a week earlier.
The Union Series
Syracuse leads the series with Union 2-0. The Orange swept the Dutchwomen in a two-game series last season at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The two teams met for the first time on November 28, 2009, where SU's Stefanie Marty had a game-high two goals to lead the Orange to a 4-1 victory. The following day, then-freshman Erin Burns scored the game-winning goal in the final second of the second period to complete the sweep.
A Look at the Orange
Senior captain Julie Rising leads the Orange in scoring with three goals and six assists for nine points this season. She has scored at least one point in each of the first five games, which is second all-time in program history. Sophomore Isabel Menard has a team-best five goals on the season, including the first hat trick in school history against Connecticut last weekend.
Syracuse's offensive attack has multiple threats as 14 players have tallied at least one point this season. Eleven of those skaters have recoded multiple points. SU's rookies have contributed early on, with five freshman tallying points, including Sadie St. Germain, who leads the newcomers with one goal and three assists.
Looking Forward
The Orange will spend another weekend away from home when it makes the trip to Columbus, Ohio to play a two-game matchup with Ohio State next weekend. The puck will first drop on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. and the two teams will meet again the following day (Oct. 30) at 4 p.m.
