SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Michael Carter-Williams is leading the nation in assist average, according to rankings announced by the NCAA on Monday. Carter-Williams owns a 9.3 average after four Syracuse contests.
Carter-Williams has led the team in assists in every game this season, recording three double-digit performances. He hit his career-high mark against Colgate on November 25, where he dished out 13 helpers in the Orange victory against the Raiders.
He's making a big contribution at the defensive end as well for the Orange. Carter-Williams is averaging 4.0 steals per game, which puts him in a second-place tie among Division I performers. Kevin Foster from Santa Clara ranks first at 4.2 and Carter-Williams is tied with Anthony Hickey from LSU at 4.0
Carter-Williams was selected as one of 50 student-athletes named to Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List for The Naismith Men's College Player of the Year Award, presented by AT&T and scheduled to be announced April 7, 2013, during the Final Four in Atlanta.
Carter-Williams and the rest of the #6/5 Orange will hit the road this weekend, facing Arkansas on Friday, Nov. 30th in the SEC/BIG EAST Challenge.
