Head coach Scott Shafer looks forward to NC State, not only because it's the first ACC road game but also because it will be a family reunion (of sorts). Six coaches between the Orange and the Wolfpack were on staff together at Northern Illinois in the early 2000s and Shafer is looking forward to getting back on the gridiron with his former colleagues. The Orange and the Wolfpack go head-to-head at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium (RSN).
"I've worked with a lot of these guys, Matt Canada, Mike Uremovich, Frisman Jackson, Clayton White. There are four of my good friends," Shafer said. "It will be great, it will be a backyard contest for us and we'll talk about it after the season for sure. I have a great respect for these guys and I'm looking forward to the matchup."
Shafer worked with Canada dating back to his days as a Graduate Assistant at Indiana, when he hired him as a student assistant. At Northern Illinois, he worked with him again as well as Uremovich and coached Jackson, who played quarterback for the Huskies. Shafer also coached with White at Stanford for the 2007 season.
Orange offensive coordinator George McDonald, defensive line coach Tim Daoust and running backs coach DeAndre Smith will also look forward to seeing the familiar faces as they also worked with Canada and Uremovich at Northern Illinois.
