Syracuse football's Macky MacPherson has been chosen as one of 170 candidates for the 2013 National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete Awards. The candidates also comprise the list of semifinalists for the 2013 William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best scholar-athlete in the nation.
The NFF Awards Committee will select up to 16 honorees, each receiving an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship and one being named the winner of the William V. Campbell Trophy.
MacPherson has started at center for the Orange in every game for the past three seasons and is currently in the running for the 2013 Rimington Award, which is awarded to the most outstanding center in FBS football. He is also serving as a team captain this season.
Aside from his accomplishments on the field, MacPherson was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District team and to the 2011 and 2012 BIG EAST All-Academic team. He has been on the Dean's list four times and on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of his semesters at Syracuse. He is also a 2013 Senior CLASS Award nominee.
