SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â Syracuse University women's basketball head coach Quentin Hillsman has announced the addition of 5-11 guard Isabella Slim to his 2013 incoming class. A native of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Slim has signed a National Letter of Intent becoming the fifth member of the Orange's freshman class that was already ranked 10th-best in the country.
Â
Slim has played her club basketball for CTO Amsterdam since 2010. She is currently a member of the Dutch U18 and U19 National Teams after playing for the U17 national squad in 2012.
Â
"Isabella is a tremendous shooter that can play three positions for us," Hillsman said. "She will give us the ability to stretch opponents' defenses, to run and make 3-pointers in transition, and she can guard up the floor."
Â
Slim led CTO Amsterdam in scoring in 2012-13 at 12.7 points per game, while averaging 5.7 rebounds and shooting 46.3 percent from the field.
Â
In eight games for the Netherland U17 National Team at the World Championships in 2012, Slim averaged 12.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and shot 42 percent from 3-point range, going 13-of-31. She led the Dutch to the medal round with a 4-1 record in pool play before finishing eighth. Slims top performances in the tournament included a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds in pool play vs. Brazil and a 23-point, eight-rebound final game vs. Belgium.
Â
"Isabella has international experience playing at a high level against talented players," Hillsman said. "I believe she will make an immediate impact for our team as a versatile perimeter player as we enter the ACC."
Â
Slim posted nearly identical stats in the 2012 U18 European Championships, averaging 12.2 points and 5.8 rebounds for the Dutch squad that finished in fourth-place with Hillsman on its coaching staff.
Â
Slims international experience also includes the 2010 and 2011 U16 European Championships.
Â
Slim joins 6-1 guard Tasia Butler (Waldorf, Md.), 6-4 twins Bria Day and Briana Day (Raleigh, N.C.) and 5-6 guard Alexis Peterson (Northland, Ohio) on Syracuse's incoming freshman class that was ranked No. 10 in the country by Dan Olson's Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and No. 12 by Blue Star Basketball Report.
Â
The talented class will join the Orange's rising sophomore class that was ranked as the No. 6 recruiting class in the country by ESPN Hoopgurlz a year ago to form the nucleus representing the future of the Orange program.
