SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Becca Block, junior Alyssa Murray and freshman Kayla Treanor have been named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-America First Team. The three first-team All-America selections match the program's highest total set last season.
Block and Murray are making their second consecutive appearance on the All-America First Team. They join current assistant coach Katie Rowan '09 as the only players in school history to earn first-team All-America honors more than once in their careers. In addition, Treanor becomes the first freshman in school history to be named to the All-America First Team.
Block anchors Syracuse's defense that has held its opponents to less than 10 goals in 12 consecutive games. She leads the team in ground balls (44) and caused turnovers (28). Block has also recorded a team-best 69 draw controls, which is the second-highest single-season total in school history. She earned the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year award and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and to the league's all-tournament team.
Murray leads the team and ranks fourth in the nation in points with 100. She also ranks sixth in the country in points per game (5.0) and 13th in assists (39). Murray's 39 assists rank first on the squad while her 17 caused turnovers are second. She earned the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year award and was named to the conference's All-BIG EAST First Team and the all-tournament team. The Tewaaraton Award finalist is the second player in school history to score 100 or more points in a season twice and the sixth player to record 200 or more points in her career. Murray ranks fourth on Syracuse's all-time scoring list, fifth in all-time goals and third in career assists.
Treanor, an All-BIG EAST First Team honoree, will end her rookie campaign as the most prolific freshman scorer in school history. She leads the team with 64 goals and ranks second in points with 85. Treanor was named the MVP of the BIG EAST Tournament after posting 13 points, including 10 goals, in the two games to lead the Orange to its second title. Treanor was one of only two freshmen named to the All-America First Team.
The Orange tries to advance to the Final Four for the second consecutive year when it hosts Florida in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
