Syracuse linebacker Marquis Spruill is set to play on the National team in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at 6 p.m. ET (ESPN2, WatchESPN). Fellow Orange Jay Bromley will also be in action on Saturday in the East-West Shrine Game at 4 p.m. (NFL Network).
Fans can watch Spruill practice with the National team on Wednesday and Thursday at 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. on ESPNU or ESPN3.com.
Started in 2012, the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl is a post-season all-star game for draft-eligible college players that gives participants a week-long NFL experience. Former NFL head coach Dick Vermeil will be leading Spruill and the National team this season after winning both the 2012 and 2013 games.
A Syracuse player has participated in both of the prior NFLPA Collegiate Bowls. Running back Antwon Bailey (2012) and defensive tackle Deon Goggins (2013) both played for the National Team while former SU great Art Monk was the wide receiver's coach on the other side of the field for the American Team. The Orange also has extensive representation in the East-West Shrine, with 72 former Syracuse players asked to participate in America's longest-running collegiate all-star game.
Spruill finished his Syracuse career with an impressive senior campaign in which he tallied 66 tackles, including a team-best 14.5 tackles for loss. He had 41.0 TFLs in his career, which is the second-highest total in SU history. He was second on the team in sacks this season with 5.5. Spruill was named to the Phil Steele All-ACC Second Team, the Coaches All-ACC third team and was an Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association All-ACC Honorable Mention selection.
