Senior attack Alyssa Murray (West Babylon, N.Y.) of the women's lacrosse team and junior hurdler Darren McCluskey (Marlton, N.J.) of the men's track and field team have been named Orange Scholar Athletes for the week of Jan. 20, 2014.
Â
Murray enters her senior campaign after an outstanding junior season in which she was named to the IQLCA All-American First Team, the All-Northeast Region First Team, the All-BIG EAST First team and was named the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year. Over the last three years, Murray has tallied 248 points (fourth-most all-time at SU) 158 goals (fifth-most all-time at SU) and 90 assists (third-most all-time at SU). Last year in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Murray scored 10 points off five goals and five assists, just the sixth time ever a player scored 10 or more points during the tournament. A member of the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, Murray is majoring in Child and Family Studies.
Â
McCluskey starts the indoor season after an impressive sophomore year in which he set personal bests in all but one of his events. Â During the indoor seasons, he competes in the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles. Last season he finished in eighth place in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles event at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship and in the outdoor season he took 11th in the 110-meter hurdles and qualified for the IC4A Outdoor Championships. McCluskey is a Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Â
