Jeremy Vuolo Re-Signs with Scorpions

SAN ANTONIO – Former Syracuse goalkeeper Jeremy Vuolo has re-signed with the San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League (NASL) for the 2014 season, Scorpions president Howard Cornfield and head coach Alen Marcina announced Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Vuolo returns for the 2014 campaign after completing a missionary trip for relief aid in the Phillippines. A typhoon struck the island country in the latter part of 2013.

The Scorpions first acquired Vuolo last season. He appeared in 14 games with 13 starts and established himself as a fan favorite after coming off the bench to preserve a 2-0 shutout of Minnesota United FC on June 1 at Toyota Field.

"With an aim toward building from the back as a template for attractive soccer, Jeremy's technical skill continues to be an asset to the club," Marcina said.

Said Vuolo: "I'm excited to be back. I'm very grateful to be back with the team and fighting for a championship."

Vuolo played the 2010 season at Syracuse after transferring from Hartwick College. In 69 career games between the two schools, he recorded a 1.07 goals-against average with 21 shutouts, including three for the Orange as a senior. In addition, Vuolo ranked fourth in the BIG EAST in saves (79) in 2010 and was named SU's team MVP.

The Scorpions begin training camp on Feb. 10. Their first game is April 12 against Minnesota United FC.
