SAN ANTONIO – Former Syracuse goalkeeper Jeremy Vuolo has re-signed with the San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League (NASL) for the 2014 season, Scorpions president Howard Cornfield and head coach Alen Marcina announced Wednesday, Jan. 8.
Â
Vuolo returns for the 2014 campaign after completing a missionary trip for relief aid in the Phillippines. A typhoon struck the island country in the latter part of 2013.
Â
The Scorpions first acquired Vuolo last season. He appeared in 14 games with 13 starts and established himself as a fan favorite after coming off the bench to preserve a 2-0 shutout of Minnesota United FC on June 1 at Toyota Field.
Â
"With an aim toward building from the back as a template for attractive soccer, Jeremy's technical skill continues to be an asset to the club," Marcina said.
Â
Said Vuolo: "I'm excited to be back. I'm very grateful to be back with the team and fighting for a championship."
Â
Vuolo played the 2010 season at Syracuse after transferring from Hartwick College. In 69 career games between the two schools, he recorded a 1.07 goals-against average with 21 shutouts, including three for the Orange as a senior. In addition, Vuolo ranked fourth in the BIG EAST in saves (79) in 2010 and was named SU's team MVP.
Â
The Scorpions begin training camp on Feb. 10. Their first game is April 12 against Minnesota United FC.
