Five Elected Captains for 2015

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Hakeem Lecky, Henry Schoonmaker, Kevin Rice, Tom Grimm and Dylan Donahue have been named captains for the 2015 season, head coach John Desko announced on Friday, Oct. 10.

The quintet were elected in a vote by their teammates. Lecky will serve as a captain for the second year in a row, while the others are in the role for the first time.

Lecky has played 52 games (32 starts) in his first three years as a midfielder and has 33 career points (29 goals, 4 assists). He notched 17 points a year ago, including 15 goals.

A 2013 USILA Honorable Mention All-American, Schoonmaker recorded 17 points, including 14 goals, as a member of the first midfield last season. In 52 career games for the Orange, he has 47 points on 38 goals and nine assists. Schoonmaker's also recovered 57 career ground balls, mainly as one of Syracuse's top faceoff wing players.

Grimm is one of the Orange's primary short-stick defensive midfielders. He has played in 27 games that past two years, contributing four assists.

Donahue had a breakout season in 2014, leading the Orange in goals (37) and finishing third on the team in points (54), on his way to USILA Honorable Mention All-America honors. Donahue finished third in the NCAA last year with .529 shooting percentage and scored a career-high eight goals versus Siena, one shy of the Orange single-game record.

Rice was named to the USILA All-America Second Team and All-ACC Team as a junior last season. The attackman totaled 80 points (36 goals, 44 assists) and ranked fifth nationally in points per game (5.0). Rice recorded nine games with at least six points in 2014 and set the ACC Championship records for most points (15) and most assists (11) in a single tournament. He 138 points (60 goals, 78 assists) in 42 career games and ranks seventh among active Division I players in career points per game (3.29).

Syracuse concludes its fall practice season on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the HEADstrong Foundation Nicholas Colleluori Fall Lacrosse Classic in Folsom, Pa. The Orange is scheduled to scrimmage Bellarmine at 10 a.m. and Binghamton at 11:30 a.m. at Ridley High School.
