'Cuse Closes Fall with Two Scrimmage Victories

Orange beats Bellarmine and Binghamton at 2014 Colleluori Classic
FOLSOM, Pa. – The Orange men's lacrosse team capped its 2014 fall season with a pair of exhibition victories on the first day of the eighth-annual Nicholas Colleluori Classic at Ridley High School on Saturday, Oct. 11. Syracuse defeated Bellarmine, 15-5, in its opening game and followed it up with a 13-6 victory against Binghamton.

The two-day event, which continues Sunday with Division II and Division III games, is held in honor of former Hofstra lacrosse player and HEADstrong Founder Nick Colleluori who died of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2006. Other Division I teams in action Saturday included Hartford, Hofstra and Monmouth.

Against Bellarmine, the Orange raced out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 10-goal victory. Redshirt junior Dylan Donahue and redshirt sophomore Sergio Salcido both had hat tricks to pace the SU offense. Donahue added an assist to finish with four points, tying senior Kevin Rice for team-high scoring honors. Rice notched four points on two goals and two assists.

Senior Bobby Wardwell and redshirt sophomore Evan Molloy split time in the cage against the Knights. Wardwell finished with three saves, while Molloy had six.

The Orange started quickly again in its second scrimmage. Syracuse led Binghamton 7-0 after the first quarter and 9-0 at the half before eventually winning, 13-6. Donahue (3 goals, 3 assists) and Rice (2 goals, 4 assists) were once again the offensive catalysts, each finishing with six points.

Junior Warren Hill and redshirt freshman Parker Ferrigan manned the cage against the Bearcats. Hill stopped three shots and Ferrigan recorded one save.
