Shafer Previews First ACC Road Trip

Orange and Wake Forest get underway on Saturday at Noon
With the Orange traveling to Wake Forest on Saturday looking to notch its first ACC win, the team will have to do so with some new faces in the lineup.
"It's been an interesting week with a lot of new faces due to some of those injuries we're trying to get through," said head coach Scott Shafer. "I'm anxious to see some of these new faces get some reps and see what they have, for a lot of them in their first and second games."
Freshman AJ Long will be making his first start under center for the Orange, looking to start the second half of the season with a win.
Shafer thinks Long is excited about the opportunity in front of him, and is pleased with how some of the 'Cuse veterans have helped Long along with his transition to becoming the starter.
"I think all the older brothers as I call them, all those guys who have played have a sense of enthusiasm when they look at AJ in the huddle because they see how excited he is," Shafer said. "I'm sure there's a cause and effect. I'm sure he looks out there and says 'hey, I'm playing with Sean Hickey.' He was in high school last year reading about Sean about how he may get drafted high some day and all that and AJ just loves to play. I think he can be a little more relaxed when he's got the big guy putting his hand on his shoulder saying 'you can do this kid.' I've seen a lot of that. It's exciting to see the older guys putting their arm around him and saying let's go."
