Hehir wins Individual Title to Lead Men to Repeat as ACC Champions
For the second year in a row, and fifth time in six years, the Syracuse men's cross country team stood on top at its conference championship meet.
The Syracuse men won its second-straight ACC Championship by putting eight runners in the top-19, led by ACC Individual Champion Martin Hehir.

"We're a really deep team as we showed today," said head coach Chris Fox. "The guys up front ran really well. We wanted to have five in the top-15, so we did a little bit better than that. This is what we do, we're a cross country program first and we put a lot of time effort into that and the guys are really into it. We don't want to lose, we thought UVA would give us a good run on their course, but like I said, this is what we do."
Hehir set a new course record at Panorama Farms, with a time of 23:15.2, winning the meet by over six seconds.
"The great part of our team is that we have 10 or 11 guys who can run with the top-group in any workout and the same thing in any race. There's always a guy right behind me pushing me." Hehir said. "Today, I just kept pressing, I think everyone was hurting a little bit on the hills towards the end of the race and I just made sure to give a little extra up the hills to put a hurting on the guys behind me."
Senior Max Straneva finished third overall (23:23.1) and freshman Justyn Knight was the first rookie to cross the line, taking eighth overall (23:30.7).
Knight was followed closely by teammates Joel Hubbard (9th/23:31.1) and MJ Erb (11th/23:36.0) in the Orange's top-five.
Colin Bennie (13th/23:39.8), Dan Lennon (15th/23:48.5) and Reed Kamyszek (19th/23:51.9) rounded out the 'Cuse runners in the top-19
On the women's side Margo Malone had a strong race for the Orange. She improved on her ninth place finish from a year ago, taking third. Malone finished the 6k course in 20:01.6 and led the Orange to an eighth-place finish.
Jessie Petersen (20:49.9/20th), Maura Linde (21:23.3/40th), Rebecca Skodis (21:28.9/49th) and Haley Cutright (21:30.8/50th) rounded out the Syracuse scoring.
Both teams will now have a week off from competition before they take on the NCAA Northeast Regional on Nov. 14 in the Bronx, N.Y.
