'Cuse moves to 1-0-1 in conference play
For the second night in a row, the Syracuse hockey team (2-3-5, 1-0-1 CHA) picked up points in conference play.
Following a 3-1 win over Penn State (3-4-3, 0-1-1 CHA) on Friday, the Orange tied the Nittany Lions 2-2 behind goals from Jessica Sibley and Alysha Burriss as part of leading 52-17 in shots on the afternoon.
Burriss got the scoring started for the Orange, when she lit the lamp just five minutes into the game. Sibley and Julie Knerr recorded the helpers on the play.
The Nittany Lions evened the score just over four minutes later when Laura Bowman scored the first of Penn State's two power play goals in the game
With under two minutes to play in the first period Sibley jammed home 'Cuse's second goal after a scrum in front of the net. Kaillie Goodnough sent a shot on net after a pass from Akane Hosoyamada that triggered a long battle in front of the net, which allowed Sibley to jam the puck under netminder Hannah Ehresmann, and sent the Orange to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead.
The Syracuse lead would hold for the next 36 minutes, but with under four minutes left in the game Amy Petersen scored in front on another power play and tied the game at two, which would hold through overtime.
The tie is the fifth on the young season for the Orange which is just one shy of the program record for most ties in a season.
Syracuse will continue its home stand next weekend when it hosts CHA rival Mercyhurst for a pair of games.
