Representatives from Allstate and Uplifting Athletes honor Rodgers
Senior captain Sam Rodgers thought he was going to breakfast in the Iocolano-Petty football like any other morning.
Â
However, when he arrived he walked into a standing ovation from his teammates as well as a surprise visit representatives from Allstate and Uplifting athletes, honoring him for his selection to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Â
Rodgers is one of 22 Division I student-athletes to make the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, which honors college football players for their contributions in the community.
Â
He is now eligible to be voted as the team captain by fans. To cast your vote for Rodgers, make sure to visit espn.com/allstate.
Rodgers, who has played in every game of his collegiate career at long snapper for the Orange, has made a pair of mission trips to Haiti in the last two years with the organization Poverty Resolutions. While there, he was involved with a local orphanage, constructing a greenhouse and holding soccer clinics for the children.
In addition to his work in Haiti, Rodgers is very involved in the Syracuse community as well, helping start the Syracuse chapter of Uplifting Athletes – which he is currently the president of. Rodgers and his teammates help raise awareness and funds for brain cancer through events such as Lift for Life.
Â
A nutrition major, Rodgers also puts his education to use by lecturing local middle school students about the importance of healthy eating habits.
Â
The Allstate AFCA Good Works selection isn't the first honor Rodgers has received, after being named to the CoSida Academic All-District team for the third time last week and as a Wuerffel Trophy Finalist on Tuesday.
