GREENSBORO, N.C.—Two Orange, left guard Rob Trudo and punter Riley Dixon, are on the All-ACC Academic Football Team, ACC Commissioner John Swofford announced Monday morning. Trudo and Dixon were among 67 football student-athletes to be selected from a pool of 122 qualifiers.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. All 14 ACC schools were represented by at least two selections on the team. The ACC has selected an All-ACC Academic Football team every year since 1954.
Dixon, a junior accounting major, earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District team and has been on a conference All-Academic for the last two years. He was also a member of the Syracuse Athletic Director's honor roll in four of his semesters as an Orange, including every fall semester. Dixon finished the 2013 season ranking third on two SU single-season record lists—most punts (71) and most yards (3,161).
Trudo, a junior economics major, was on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team in his first two seasons at Syracuse and was on the Fall Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of his seasons as an Orange. Trudo started in all 13 games this season, helping pave the way for an SU rushing attack that ranked 38th in the nation and fourth in the ACC, averaging 194.8 yards per game.
