
3 Orange Awarded ACC Postgrad Scholarships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Syracuse field hockey's Adrian Chambers and Laura Hahnefeldt and cross country/track & field's Sarah Pagano have been named recipients of ACC Postgraduate Scholarships, the conference office has announced.

ACC Commissioner John Swofford announced on Tuesday a list of 44 student-athletes who have been selected for the Weaver-James-Corrigan Award, including three student-athletes who will receive the Thacker Award. An additional six student-athletes who plan to enter a professional career in their chosen sport were named honorary recipients.

The three Orange recipients will be honored at the annual ACC Postgraduate Luncheon presented by ESPN on April 16, 2014, in the Guilford Ballroom at the Sheraton Greensboro at the Four Seasons.

The Weaver-James-Corrigan and Jim and Pat Thacker postgraduate scholarships are awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $5,000 toward his or her graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.

Adrian Chambers | Field Hockey | Psychology & Biology | Wilmington, Del.
Chambers was a four-year member of Syracuse's field hockey team, helping lead the program to four-straight NCAA Tournaments, including the 2012 Final Four, and two conference tournament titles. She was a member of the Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester of her collegiate career. She is a two-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad. Chambers finished her playing career with two goals.

Laura Hahnefeldt | Field Hockey | Advertising & Psychology | Hamburg, Germany
Hahnefeldt was a four-year starter at back for Syracuse, leading an Orange defense that was consistently one of the best in the country. A three-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and a 2013 member of the All-ACC Academic Team, she has been named to the Dean's List and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester of her collegiate career. Hahnefeldt was named NFHCA All-Mideast Region all four years of her career, including when she was the Region Player of the Year in 2012, and is a three-time NFHCA All-American. She was named All-ACC in 2013 after being a two-time All-BIG EAST honoree. Hahnefeldt has also been named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad each year of her collegiate career and recently earned Summa Cum Laude honors.

Sarah Pagano | Cross Country/Track & Field | Biochemistry | Ringwood, N.J.
Pagano has excelled in everything she has endeavored at Syracuse, from the cross country trail to the track to the classroom. Pagano was named to the All-BIG EAST team three times during her cross country career and was an honorable mention USTFCCCA All-American in her junior outdoor season. She also set the school record in the indoor 5,000-meter run this season. Pagano was a member of the USTFCCCA All-Academic team in her junior and senior years and was a member of the BIG EAST All-Academic team in each of the last four seasons.
