Kevin Rice named ACC Offensive Player of the Week, Dominic Lamolinara tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Syracuse duo of junior attackman Kevin Rice and senior goalie Dominic Lamolinara swept the weekly Atlantic Coast Conference men's lacrosse awards on Tuesday, March 11. Rice was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week and Lamolinara was tabbed the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for their performances in SU's 14-8 victory over St. John's at the Cobb County Lacrosse Classic last weekend.
Rice posted his second eight-point game of the season, scoring a career-high four goals and passing out four assists against the Red Storm. Six of his points (three goals, three assists) came during a 10-1 Orange run that broke open a 2-2 game. Rice, who tallied eight assists in the season opener against Siena, is the first SU player to record multiple eight-point games in the same season since Ryan Powell and Liam Banks did so in 2000.
Lamolinara anchored an Orange defense that held St. John's to just four goals in the first three quarters. He made 12 saves in 45 minutes of work, including 11 in the first half. Seven of his saves came during an 8-0 Orange run in which the SU defense shut out the Red Storm for nearly 26 minutes.
Next up for the Orange is second-ranked Johns Hopkins. Syracuse visits the Blue Jays Saturday, March 15 for a 12 p.m. contest at Homewood Field.
