Spring practice is the first chance the Syracuse coaching staff gets to set the tone of the 2014 season. Offensive coordinator George McDonald and defensive coordinator Chuck Bullough each look forward to the next 15 practices to see where their respective sides of the ball are headed going into August.
Â
Coach Bullough's interest is in seeing what the defense brings back to the table after a year in his system and what the younger players have to offer the team.
Â
"This is going to be the team's second season in our system," Bullough said. "What we are looking forward to this spring is seeing how much they have absorbed from the whole season and what they bring into spring ball."
Â
"The young guys were our scout team but as defensive coaches we didn't get to see them play, they were on the other field. It will be very interesting to see them play our defense."
Â
Coach McDonald looks to not only develop his offense from a play book standpoint but also from an attitude standpoint.
Â
"The good thing about this offense is we're going to be back together for the next two years, at least the starters except for Sean Hickey, and we feel like the future is bright for us," McDonald said.
Â
"As an offense, I want to see us continue to develop our identity and continue to create an attitude. Our identity is to play fast so how are we going to get to that point and what attitude are we going to take into fall camp? Those are the things I'm looking for. The big picture is we want to be tough and hardnosed but we have to develop and create that in these 15 practices."
