SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse men's crew varsity eight is ranked No. 13 in the Preseason USRowing Collegiate Poll announced on Wednesday. Head Coach Dave Reischman's Orange crew has now been ranked 16th or better for 63-straight weeks, dating back to the final poll of the 2005 season.
Syracuse debuted at No. 14 in last year's preseason poll before peaking at No. 13 on April 17 and eventually finishing No. 14 in the final poll on May 22.
The Orange's conference, the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges, dominates the poll with 13 of the 20 ranked teams, ensuring that once again it will be the premier rowing league in the country.
The Orange opens the spring on Saturday in Princeton, N.J. when it faces the host Tigers and Georgetown in its opening races. SU will be looking to improve on second-place finishes across the board in last season's Princeton-Georgetown regatta on Lake Carnegie.
Syracuse closed its fall season on Oct. 27 at the Princeton Chase, posting a ninth-place finish with its varsity eight against a strong field of 57 crews.
