No. 13 Orange Crew Finishes Second at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – No. 13 Syracuse men's crew finished second in the varsity eight race at its annual scrimmage vs. Princeton and Georgetown on Saturday on Lake Carnegie, N.J. Head Coach Dave Reischman's second varsity eight also finished second, while SU's third and fourth varsity eights both won their races.

The Orange's varsity eight, coxed by senior Liz Abraham, covered the 2,000 meter course in 6:10.9, 5.9 seconds behind the fourth-ranked and host Tigers (6:05.0) and 16 seconds ahead of the Hoyas (6:26.9).

The time gaps showed a marked improvement for SU's top boat. In last year's scrimmage, the Orange's young crew finished 9.2 seconds behind Princeton and just 2.8 seconds ahead of Georgetown.

SU's 2V8 finished second in 6:30.5, behind the Tigers' winning crew's time of 6:15.2 and ahead of the Hoyas' time of 6:51.5.

The Orange's depth was on display in the 3V8 and 4V8 races, with SU posting wins of 3.0 seconds over Princeton in the 3V8 and 4.1 seconds in the 4V8.

This marked the sixth-straight year the three programs have met for an early season scrimmage. The team's opened the morning with the 2,000 meter races, followed by shorter scrimmage pieces in the afternoon.

Syracuse varsity eight heads cross-country next week to race at the San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday and Sunday in San Diego, Calif.
