The accolades are the first career all-conference honors for the pair
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Attackman Kevin Rice and defenseman Brandon Mullins were named to the 18-member All-ACC Men's Lacrosse Team on Wednesday, April 23. The all-conference team is determined by a vote of the league's six head coaches who are not permitted to vote for their own players.
Rice leads the Orange in points (54), assists (28) and ranks second in goals scored (26). He is second in the ACC in points per game (4.5) and leads the league in assists per contest (2.33). The junior standout has five six-point games this season, including eight-point performances versus Siena (eight assists) and St. John's (four goals, four assists). In addition, Rice has been selected as the ACC Offensive Player of the Week three times.
Mullins returned to the Orange lineup this season after missing most of 2013 due to injury. He's started all 12 games on close defense and has 24 ground balls and a team-best 12 caused turnovers. In addition, he's developed into one of the top cover men in the conference. Mullins recently drew the primary assignment of marking fellow All-ACC performers Matt Kavanagh (Notre Dame) and Joey Sankey (North Carolina). Kavanagh finished with two assists and Sankey had one goal in the Orange's wins against the Irish and Tar Heels, respectively.
The ACC Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year will be announced by the league next week.
Syracuse returns to action Friday, April 25 when it faces Duke in the semifinal round of the 2014 ACC Men's Lacrosse Championship at PPL Park. The third-seeded Orange and second-seeded Blue Devils face off at 5 p.m. live on ESPNU.
