SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The No. 18 Syracuse men's rowing team heads to Worcester, Mass and Lake Quinsigamond for the 69th EARC Sprints Regatta on Sunday. The Eastern Sprints serves as the conference championship for the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC), the top collegiate rowing league in the country.
Head coach Dave Reischman's varsity eight crew goes into the weekend as the 14th seed in the 18-team league. The top nine finishers receive automatic bids to the IRA National Championship Regatta. The Orange's second varsity eight is seeded 12th, the third varsity eight is ninth out of 14, and the fourth varsity eight is seventh out of 10 crews.

Syracuse is ranked No. 18 in the latest USRowing Collegiate Poll, announced on May 14. The Orange slipped one spot from the previous week. SU has now been ranked 18th or better 68 straight weeks, dating back to the final poll of the 2005 season.
The EARC is once again the nation's premier conference with 13 of its 14 varsity eight crews ranked in the in top 20, including nine of the top 11.
Here are where the EARC V8 crews rank in the USRowing Collegiate Poll: No. 3 Yale, No. 4 Harvard, No. 5 Princeton, No. 6 Brown, No. 7 Navy, No. 8 Cornell, No. 9 Boston University, No. 10 Northeastern, No. 11 Columbia, No. 13 Penn, No. 16 Wisconsin, No. 17 Dartmouth, and No. 18 Syracuse. Holy Cross is the only crew not ranked.
Last Year at Sprints
At last year's Eastern Sprints, on May 19 on Lake Quinsigimond, Syracuse's varsity eight finished fifth in the petite final, positioning it 11th overall, two spots better than its seeding and good for an at-large bid to the IRA Regatta. The Orange recorded a victory in the fourth varsity four event, while third in the petite final of the second varsity eight and fifth in the petite final of the third varsity eight.
In the Sprints marquee event, the varsity eight, the 16th-ranked Orange placed fourth in its heat in a time of 6:24.804, behind Harvard (6:13.823), Boston University (6:16.918) and Wisconsin (6:22.210), and ahead of Dartmouth (6:34.451) and Rutgers (6:43.084). Following the three heats, SU was placed in the petite final, where it finished the 2,000-meter course in a time of 6:20.442, good for fifth behind Navy (6:07.216), Cornell (6:10.303), Wisconsin (6:12.609) and Penn (6:19.027), and ahead of sixth-place Georgetown (6:25.471).
Last Time Out
The No. 17 Syracuse men's crew closed its cup season on May 9, losing a tight varsity eight race to host and 18th-ranked Dartmouth for the Packard Cup. The Orange's second varsity eight won its race, while the Big Green claimed wins in the third and fourth varsity races.
For the second-straight year, Dartmouth won the Packard Cup by less than a second, holding off SU's V8's move in the final 500 meters to win by .9 seconds, 5:36.6 to 5:37.5. Last season, the Big Green won in Syracuse by .7 seconds.
In the 2V8, SU took the early lead, but after Dartmouth made its move and went up a seat with 500 to go, the Orange (5:37.3) out-sprinted the Big Green (5:37.7) to win by .4 seconds.
Dartmouth (5:43.8) won the 3V8 race over SU (5:46.7) by the largest margin of the day's tight racing, 2.9 seconds, while the Big Green's 4V8 (5:49.6) edged SU (5:50.2) by .6 seconds.
