Syracuse Crews Complete Semifinal Action at IRA Regatta

The Orange's V8 and 2V8 will row in third level finals, while the 3V8 made the petite final.

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The No. 18 Syracuse men's rowing varsity eight crew will race in Sunday's third level final, while the second varsity eight will row in its third level final and the third varsity eight will be in the petite final following semifinal races at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Regatta on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, New Jersey on Saturday.
Head coach Dave Reischman's Orange placed third in the V8 semifinal to make the third level final. The 2V8 finished second in its semifinal in which the top three made the third level final. The 3V8 finished fifth in its semifinal to head to the petite final.
Sunday Finals Schedule
9:50 a.m. - 2V8 Third Level Final (lane 2 vs. Drexel, Dartmouth, Harvard, Gonzaga, Stanford)
10:40 a.m. - 3V8 Petite Final (lane 2 vs. Navy, Dartmouth, Cornell, Yale, Penn)
12:05 p.m . - V8 Third Level Final (lane 1 vs. Penn, FIT, Stanford, GW, Oregon State)

Saturday Semifinal Recaps
In the V8 semifinal, Syracuse (6:13.907) beat Hobart (6:14.754) by just under a second for third place and the final spot in the third level final. FIT (6:11.197) won the race with George Washington (6:13.310) edging the Orange for second place. The fourth-place Statesmen, fifth-place Gonzaga (6:25.456) and sixth-place San Diego (6:30.947) will move on to the fourth level final.
In the 2V8 semifinal, Dartmouth (6:28.223) out-sprinted the second-place Orange (6:29.090) to the line, while Stanford (6:31.693) finished third, Columbia (6:33.771) was fourth, San Diego (6:41.318) was fifth, and Hobart (6:47.257) sixth. The Big Green, Orange and Cardinal all advance to the third level final, while the Lions, Toreros and Statesman go to the fourth level final.
In the 3V8 semifinal, Syracuse finished fifth in the six boat race to qualify for the petite final. Cal (5:57.023), Brown (6:01.485) and Princeton (6:02.931) took the three top spots and berths in the grand final, while fourth-place Dartmouth (6:05.306), the Orange (6:13.424) and sixth-place Navy (6:15.700) move to the petite final.
