Orange to face either Bryant or Siena Sunday in opening round
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men's lacrosse team will take on the winner of the play-in game between Northeast Conference champion Bryant and MAAC champion Siena in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship Sunday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.

Syracuse is making its 34th appearance in the NCAA playoffs and was rewarded for an 11-4 season with the second seed in this year's 18-team field.
Bryant (14-4) will host Siena (11-5) in one of the tournament's two play-in games Wednesday, May 7. Bryant captured its third straight Northeast Conference title with a 10-4 victory yesterday against Hobart. The Bulldogs are led by conference tournament MVP Kevin Massa who has won 272-of-375 (.725) faceoffs and collected 201 ground balls this season. Attackman Shane Morrell has a team-high 55 points on 39 goals and 16 assists.
Siena topped Marist Saturday for the MAAC title, 11-7. The Saints boast five 20-goal scorers, including Richie Hurley who leads the club with 78 points (34 goals, 44 assists).
This is the eighth time in tournament history Syracuse has received the No. 2 seed. The Orange owns a 15-4 record all-time when serving as the second seed, including winning the 1983, 2002 and 2009 national championships.
Syracuse holds a 65-22 record in NCAA Tournament play. Its .747 tournament winning percentage is the best in NCAA history and its 65 tournament victories are second all-time behind Johns Hopkins (67).
The Orange has 33 previous NCAA invitations to its credit, including 24 straight from 1983-2006. SU advanced to the national semifinals 22 consecutive years from 1983-2004 and has won 11 NCAA championships (1983, 1988-90, 1993, 1995, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2008-09).
Head coach John Desko has directed the Orange to five NCAA titles (2000, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2009). His Orange squads are 31-9 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and Desko owns the highest winning percentage (.775) of any coach in tournament history.
The Orange is 1-0 all-time against Bryant and 3-0 versus Siena. Syracuse defeated the Bulldogs in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament, 12-7. The Orange opened this season on Feb. 10 with a 19-7 triumph against the Saints.
