"Centers" Of Commencement Attention

If this weekend's Syracuse University Commencement Ceremony needs a rebound or a blocked shot at some point, there will be at least two graduates in cap and gown who could provide it.
Rakeem Christmas and Baye Moussa Keita, teammates for three seasons on the SU basketball team, are both participating in commencement activities this weekend. Christmas is earning his degree in just three years while Keita is earning his following a more conventional four years of school.
At 6-10, Keita is most likely the tallest member of the Class of 2014 at Syracuse. He logged time in 142 games during his SU hoop career, the sixth-highest total in program history. He averaged 2.6 points and 3.8 rebounds for the Orange and participated in the NCAA Tournament four times.
Keita majored in child and family studies in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. A native of Senegal, he is joined this weekend by his parents, Macode and Khady Diallo, who have traveled from his home country to see commencement.
Christmas and his 6-9 frame have been with Syracuse's starting five in 109-of-111 games over the past three seasons. He's averaged 4.5 points and 4.2 rebounds a contest.
He will receive a bachelor of science degree in communications and rhetorical study from the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Christmas is expected to begin graduate-school coursework while competing for the Orange as a senior next winter. He was born in St. Croix but moved to the United States at an early age. Christmas credits his aunt, Amira Hamid, for much of his upbringing.
