SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Five Syracuse field hockey student-athletes have been selected to compete at the USA Field Hockey 2014 Women's National Championship. Serra Degnan, Jess Jecko, Alyssa Manley, Kati Nearhouse and Jordan Page were invited to play in the tournament to be held June 15-21 at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa.
The USA Field Hockey Women's National Championship annually brings together the most elite athletes in the country, including top collegiate players, current National Team members and members of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team. Athletes train at High Performance sites throughout the country in the hopes of being named to the Women's National Championship squad for their region. The six regional squads then face off for the prestigious national championship.
The event also serves as the selection trials for the U.S. Women's National Team.
Degnan and Manley have been selected to play for the U.S. U21 team in the tournament, while Jecko and Page will be playing for the USA Eagles squad and Nearhouse for the USA Freedom.
Team practices will be held on June 15 before tournament play begins on June 16 and runs through June 21.
In addition to those five, two other Syracuse players, Liz Sack and Regan Spencer, were selected for their regions' High Performance Training Camp rosters and will compete in the U21 Women's National Championship on June 21-25 at Spooky Nook Sports.
