EUGENE, Ore. – Syracuse senior Sarah Pagano finished seventh in the women's 10,000-meter run, highlighting the four Orange athletes in action on day two of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Thursday at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
The six overall competitors Syracuse fielded at the NCAA Championship finished off what was a very successful year – and first competing in the ACC - for head coach Chris Fox's Orange.
Pagano finished her collegiate career in terrific fashion, running a personal-best 33:00.46, beating her previous PR, set at the ACC Championship, by over 41 seconds. The Ringwood, N.J. native spent the majority of the race in the elite lead group of runners before eventually finishing seventh. The top eight finishers receive All-America status.
Pagano bettered her performance from last year's NCAA Championship by 15 positions and by just under 1:54.
Also competing in Eugene for the Orange on Thursday where Joel Hubbard in the men's 1,500-meter run, Freddie Crittenden in the men's 110-meter hurdles, and Margo Malone in the women's 10,000-meter run.
Malone ran side-by-side with Pagano for much of the 10K before eventually finishing 19th in a time of 34:03.08, capping off a strong season for the ACC bronze medal winner in both the 5K and 10K.
Hubbard placed 12th in the second heat of the 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:51.62, earning valuable NCAA experience for the talented sophomore from Marshfield, Massachusetts.
Crittenden, promising freshman from Utica, Michigan, finished his terrific rookie campaign by placing sixth in the first heat of the 110-meter hurdles. His time of 13.81 was the second-fastest of his career, bested only by his NCAA prelim time of 13.73, and missed advancing to the final by two positions.
