Staats Makes Iroquois World Championship Roster

Cody Jamieson, Brett Bucktooth, Jerermy Thompson and Sid Smith also on squad
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Rising senior Randy Staats and four Syracuse lacrosse alums have been named to the 27-man Iroquois Nationals roster for the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship. In addition to Staats, Cody Jamieson, Brett Bucktooth, Jeremy Thompson and Sid Smith are competing to make the 23-man active roster for the world championship, which takes place in Denver from July 10-19.

A two-time NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year at Onondaga Community College (OCC), Staats was second on the team in scoring with 56 points (33 goals, 23 assists) in his first year with the Orange. He ranked fourth in the ACC in points per game (4.0), fifth in goals per game (2.36) and fifth in assists per contest (1.64).
Jamieson played for the Orange in 2009 and 2010 before going on to star with the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League (NLL). He scored the game-winning goal in overtime of the 2009 NCAA championship game versus Cornell, and posted 28 goals and 13 assists to earn USILA Honorable Mention All-America honors as a senior in 2010.
Bucktooth (2003-06) was a two-time All-American at Syracuse. He led the Orange in both points (55) and goals (37) in 2006.
One of the nation's most versatile midfielders during his college career, Thompson was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection in 2010 and 2011 and received All-America honors after both seasons. He totaled 33 goals and 20 assists in his career and was one of SU's primary faceoff men.
Smith (2008-09) is one of the most decorated defenders in school history. He was a two-time All-American and keyed an SU defense that gave up less than eight goals per game both years and won two NCAA titles.
A record 38 nations will compete in this year's world tournament. The Iroquois are in the Blue Division and will face Australia, Canada, England, Japan and the United States during pool play for a spot in the championship bracket.
The Iroquois' opening game is slated for July 11 against England.
