Jamieson, Keogh and Smith power Rochester to third straight NLL title
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Ninety miles west of Syracuse three former Orange stars are helping build a lacrosse dynasty. Cody Jamieson, Sid Smith and Stephen Keogh led the National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Rochester Knighthawks to an unprecedented third consecutive Champion's Cup over the weekend.
The Knighthawks defeated the Calgary Roughnecks, 16-10, in Game 2 of the NLL championship series then won a 10-minute mini-game, 3-2, to clinch the title Saturday night at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. The Knighthawks trailed 2-0 in the mini-game before rallying for three goals in the final 2:14.
The NLL's leading scorer, Jamieson posted 108 points on 36 goals and a franchise-record 72 assists in 2014. He contributed three and three assists in the Game 2 victory against Calgary.
Keogh ranked third on Rochester's season scoring chart with 71 points and was second on the squad behind Jamieson in goals scored (33). Keogh had three goals and one assist Saturday versus the Roughnecks.
Smith, the Knighthawks' team captain, collected 87 loose balls on the season. He also chipped in offensively with one goal and three assists.
Jamieson, Keogh and Smith each earned All-America honors during their Orange careers and played together on SU's 2009 national championship team.
The trio reunited in Rochester with Keogh joining Jamieson and Smith for the 2012 season. The Knighthawks topped Edmonton that year to win league title and Jamieson was named Champion's Cup MVP. Jamieson earned the award again in 2013, leading Rochester past Washington in the finals.
