Skilton, New Zealand Eliminated at FIFA U-20 World Cup

Syracuse sophomore Stephanie Skilton and New Zealand lost to Nigeria, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. The junior Football Ferns were the first New Zealand women's team to reach the second phase of a FIFA World Cup event.
Skilton was named the Player of the Match in New Zealand's World Cup opener against Paraguay. Her play led to the squad's first goal before she gave the Football Ferns a 2-0 lead with a goal in the 43rd minute. Against Costa Rica, Skilton scored the first goal of the game, sparking New Zealand to a 3-0 victory.
The Syracuse women's soccer team opens the 2014 campaign on Friday, Aug. 22 when it faces Missouri in at the Penn State Invitational.
