Casey Powell, John Galloway and Joel White earn all-pro honors
BOSTON – Syracuse men's lacrosse was the most represented program when Major League Lacrosse (MLL) released its 2014 All-MLL Team at the end of last week. Three former Orange made the all-pro team, more than any other college program, as Florida Launch attackman Casey Powell and goalie John Galloway and LSM Joel White of the Rochester Rattlers were named to the 12-player squad in a vote of MLL coaches and general managers.
The MLL all-time points leader (468), Powell earned MLL Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2014. He posted his best statistical season since 2002, leading the league in points (63) and tying for the MLL lead in assists (33). The campaign was a remarkable comeback for Powell who also earned MLL Offensive Player of the Year plaudits in 2005, but hadn't played in more than three regular-season games in a season since 2010.
Together White and Galloway anchored a defensive unit that propelled the Rattlers to an appearance in last weekend's MLL championship game.
A four-year pro, Galloway started every game for the Rattlers and was tabbed the MLL Goalie of the Year. Galloway led the MLL in saves (194) and goals-against average (11.16) during the regular season, both personal bests.
White finished fourth in the league during the regular season with 81 ground balls. He also added five goals and three assists.
