Box Score
Junior forward Emma Russell's hat trick propelled the Orange to a 6-1 victory over Kent State in the final game of its four-game road trip on Tuesday.
Russell scored all three goals in the first half as part of the 4-0 lead 'Cuse took into the locker room. Senior forward Lauren Brooks added two goals of her own, with freshman Annalena Ulbrich following her two-goal performance on Monday with another goal.
"We were focused and ready to go," said head coach Ange Bradley. We wanted to get on the scoreboard early and manage the game given that it was our fourth game in five days. It was a grueling schedule and the kids played smart. I'm really proud of them and what they accomplished this weekend."
Syracuse found the back of the cage in the first four minutes for the second-straight game, with Russell opening the scoring off a pass from Lieke Visser.
Russell would tack on another just 1:35 later as she finished a Jessica Ross pass to give SU a 2-0 advantage 5:01 into the game.
Brooks would break the Russell run by adding her first goal of the afternoon, before Russell finished her hat trick on a Serra Degnan feed.
The Flashes' Shannon Martin cut into the SU lead out of halftime, scoring Kent State's lone goal at the 52 minute mark before Syracuse put the game away with two goals in 40 seconds.
Ulbrich recorded the fifth tally for the Orange on another Visser assist before Brooks scored her second of the day to cap off the offensive attack.
Sophomore Rebecca Congel got the start in net for the Orange, making four saves in the contest. The Orange outshot its opponent for the fourth-straight game, putting 16 shots on Kent State goalie Andrea Rinehart.
The Orange will now return to campus to host a pair of contests. Syracuse will take on Albany in the home opener on Saturday at 2 p.m., and square off with Ball State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
