Stephanie Skilton posts her second multi-goal match of the season.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Stephanie Skilton recorded five points and moved into the top 10 on Syracuse's career goals scored list in the Orange's 4-0 win against UMass-Lowell. The match was the first contest of the Colgate Nike Classic in Hamilton, N.Y.

Skilton scored twice for her second multiple-goal game of the season and third of her career. She now has 13 career goals, which put her in a three-way tie for ninth place on Syracuse's all-time record list. Skilton also had an assist against the River Hawks to improve her team-leading point total to nine.

Syracuse dominated the first half of play and did not allow a shot for UMass-Lowell. The Orange applied offensive pressure throughout the first 45 minutes and finally broke through in the 27th minute. The River Hawks tried to clear the ball out of its defensive end but junior Jackie Firenze intercepted the pass and fired a shot from 30 yards out into the right corner of the net to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead at intermission.

The second half featured more Orange offense. Skilton started the scoring in the 46th minute on a give-and-go with freshman Alex Lamontagne. Skilton then found the back of the net again less than three minutes later when she beat the last defender and put her shot in the lower left corner of the goal from 15 yards out.

Skilton also played a part in Syracuse's final goal in the 64th minute. Junior Erin Simon passed the ball forward to Skilton, who played the ball to Lamontagne on the left side of the box. Lamontagne's shot to the left corner of the goal got by River Hawks' goalkeeper Jill Carlson for the 4-0 final.

"Obviously I'm happy that we won, but I'm very disappointed in the way we played," said Syracuse head coach Phil Wheddon. "In the first half we gave the ball away far too many times. Our final pass, again, was very poor. We had some great opportunities to score that we missed or the keeper made an easy save. All-in-all, it feels a little bit like a loss because we could have played so much better."

The Orange posted 23 shots and five corner kicks. UMass-Lowell recorded four shots, none of which were on goal as sophomore MacKenzie Moranz (Pittsfield, N.Y.) posted her second shutout of the season for the Orange. Carlson finished with 10 saves.

Syracuse is back in action at the Colgate Nike Classic on Sunday when it faces Vermont at 11 a.m.
