Fenne scores for fourth-straight game in win

The Syracuse field hockey team used goals from Liz Sack, Alma Fenne and Erin Gillingham to power past Indiana (6-7) 3-1 on Sunday.

The No. 1 Orange (13-0, 4-0 ACC) dominated possession for much of the game, totaling 24 shots to the Hoosiers' six, putting 14 shots on cage and drawing five corners.

Sack got the scoring started 4:24 into the game by firing a low shot into the back-right corner of the net to put the Orange ahead. It was the third goal on the season for Sack.

Fenne then scored just before halftime to give Syracuse a 2-0 lead. It's the fourth-straight game Fenne has scored for the Orange, tallying her ninth goal of the year with a hard shot from in front of the net, beating Hoosiers' goalkeeper Noelle Rother.

Indiana's Maddie Latino pulled the game to within one following a penalty corner 10 minutes after half. Kate Barber sent a shot on goal that Latino deflected into the back of the net.

However, that was as close as the Hoosiers would get as Gillingham put the Orange back up by two with 12 minutes to play. Gillingham buried a rebound for the final tally, giving Syracuse the win in its first-ever contest with Indiana.

Jess Jecko made a pair of saves for 'Cuse on the day, only facing three shots on goal.

Next, Syracuse will host its final-two home games of the 2015 campaign, beginning with a key ACC matchup with No. 7 Wake Forest on Saturday at 1 p.m., before hosting No. 20 Princeton for Senior Day on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Sunday's contest will honor the tremendous careers of Jess Jecko, Emma Russell, Alyssa Manley and Fenne, with the game also being streamed on CuseTV.
