Cuse.com will honor each of the Orange's four seniors ahead of Sunday's Senior Day game against Princeton
With the Syracuse field hockey team honoring its four seniors prior to Sunday's home regular-season finale against No. 19 Princeton, Cuse.com will be spotlighting each one of the team's four seniors each day this week.
Joining a group of three standout senior captains who've donned the Orange for four years, graduate student Alma Fenne has bolstered the accomplishments of an already tremendous senior class in her first season with the program.
Fellow seniors Jess Jecko, Alyssa Manley and Emma Russell have been part of 66 wins to date in their careers, already standing as the fourth-most winningest class in program history. Fenne has flourished as an addition to the talented group this season, playing a key role in Syracuse's start to the season.
The Amsterdam, Netherlands native has scored nine goals in 13 games for Syracuse this year and also has six assists on the season, fitting right in with the Orange midfield and providing a crucial offensive option for the nation's top-ranked team.
"So far, this has been the best time I've ever had," Fenne said. "It was such a good decision to come here, I love it.
Fenne has come on strong as the season has worn on, netting goals in each of her last-four games, beginning with a pair of goals in a 5-0 win over Monmouth on Oct. 2 and including the game-winning goal in Sunday's 3-1 triumph over Indiana.
"In the first week, I remember Serra telling me that this team will become your family, and I thought 'your family? I've never had that with a field hockey team, I don't know that it's possible," Fenne said. Â "But now after three and a half months I totally get what she's saying. You do everything for one another and that's what I think makes this team so strong.
"My parents came here last weekend and said the same thing, that they've never seen me play with a team like this who's so close and will do everything for each other."
Syracuse has two regular-season home contests remaining this weekend, with the Orange hosting No. 7 Wake Forest on Saturday at 1 p.m. and No. 19 Princeton for Senior Day on Sunday, with the festivities to kick off shortly before the game starts at 3 p.m.
