Orange back on top for the first time since 2012
For the first time since the 2012 season, the Syracuse field hockey team is the nation's top-ranked team, moving up to No. 1 in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Poll.
After defeating Monmouth and Cornell by a combined 14-1 this weekend, the Orange (11-0, 3-0 ACC) leapfrogged No. 2 UConn to move to the top-spot for the first time since Oct. 9, 2012.
Syracuse earned 915 points and 15 first-place votes to put 'Cuse ahead of the Huskies (894 points, 25 first-place votes), who are also 11-0 on the year and the lone other unbeaten team in the nation.
North Carolina (873 points, 8 first-place votes) remains in third, while Duke (751 points) and Virginia (715 points) sit in fourth and fifth respectively.
Syracuse has been ranked in the poll every week since the start of the 2008 season.
All-seven ACC teams are once again in the top-11 of this week's poll, including Syracuse's opponent on Friday, No. 11 Louisville.
The Orange and Cardinals are set to square off at 6 p.m. on Friday in Louisville.
