Dixon, Estime, and Thompson named all-conference
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three members of the Orange were named to the 2015 All-Atlantic Coast Conference football teams on Monday, Nov. 30. Senior punter Riley Dixon, junior wide receiver Brisly Estime, and junior defensive end Ron Thompson each received all-league plaudits from the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA).
Â
Dixon edged Wake Forest punter Alex Kinal 77-75 in the voting to become the first player in program history to earn All-ACC First Team recognition. One of the 10 semifinalists for the 2015 Ray Guy Award, Dixon averaged 43.7 yards per punt this year. He placed more than 43 percent (28-65) of his punts inside the 20-yard line with only five touchbacks. In addition, 18 of his punts traveled more than 50 yards, including a long of 64 yards against Rhode Island. The Blossvale, N.Y. native was an All-ACC Honorable Mention selection by ACSMA in 2014.
Â
Estime was named to the All-ACC Third Team as a return specialist. He leads the ACC and ranks second in the nation with an average of 18.1 yards per punt return. The mark tied Maryland's Tony Logan (2010) for sixth on the ACC single-season record list and ranks third in Syracuse history. Estime brought back two punts for touchdowns and is the first SU player with multiple punt return TDs in the same season since Quinton Spotwood set the school record with four in 1997. The Delray Beach, Fla. product ranks seventh nationally in combined kick return yards with 937 (665 kickoff, 272 punt), and is fourth in the conference in all-purpose yards per game (113.4).
Â
Thompson joined Estime on the All-ACC Third Team. He leads the ACC with four forced fumbles and is tied for eighth in the conference in sacks (7.0). The Southfield, Mich. native posted 35 tackles, including 9.5 for a loss. Thompson's best outing came against No. 1 Clemson on Nov. 14. He recorded a career-high six tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups.
Clemson, this year's Atlantic Division champion, led the way 17 all-conference selections, including six first-team choices. Coastal Division winner North Carolina had 13 players honored (14 spots) and Florida State had 12.
The coaches' All-ACC teams are expected to be announced next week.
