KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Syracuse sophomore Julian Buescher is one of 15 semifinalists for the 2015 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy, the highest individual award in collegiate soccer. The list of semifinalists was announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Â
It marks the second consecutive year that Syracuse has had a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy, which has been awarded to the national player of the year every season since 1967. Alex Bono was a finalist for the honor in 2014.
Â
This season, Buescher ranks seventh in the nation in assists and 23rd in scoring. He leads the team in both categories with 27 points and 11 assists, both of which are career highs. Buescher's 11 assists tie him for the third-highest single-season total in program history and are the most for a member of the Orange since 2001. He is now tied for ninth on Syracuse's all-time assists list with 16.
Â
Buescher earned All-ACC First Team honors and was a member of the ACC All-Tournament Team. He had a string of nine straight matches with at least one point earlier this season and has recorded a point or more in 15 of the last 21 matches.
Â
Three finalists will be chosen from this year's list of semifinalists on Friday, Dec. 11. The 2015 Hermann Trophy winner will be announced on Friday, Jan. 8 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo. NCAA Division I coaches that are NSCAA College Services members will vote from Dec. 2 through Dec. 11.
