
Skilton Competes With New Zealand National Team

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Junior Stephanie Skilton of the Syracuse women's soccer team has joined the New Zealand National Team for a two-game series against Brazil.

Skilton and the Football Ferns defeated Brazil 1-0 in the first match on Sunday, beating the soccer powerhouse at the Estadio de Pacaembu in Sao Paulo. The next match is tonight at 6 p.m. at the Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba.

"I've been training with the team all week here in Brazil and I am loving the environment and training intensity," Skilton said. "I am being challenged and pushed to work harder and as a result my confidence is increasing."

New Zealand is now unbeaten in the last four matches against the world number seven side, including two victories. Skilton and the rest of the squad will look to continue the unbeaten streak tonight in hopes of capturing another victory over Brazil. The experience for Skilton is undoubtedly making her a better player out on the pitch.

"I am gaining valuable insight and experience from players who play professionally all around the world," Skilton said. "I am thriving in this environment and the next step is to push into the starting 11."
