The Orange defeats Bethune-Cookman but suffers another walk-off loss to Jacksonville
Offense Prevails Against Bethune-Cookman
O'Hara pitched four innings of scoreless ball to keep the Wildcats at bay while the Orange built its lead. Ozanne kicked things off for 'Cuse with a solo shot to left field in the first, after that, 'Cuse was held scoreless until the third when Dewes set the table for the top of the lineup with a walk and a stolen base, allowing Doane to score her with a double.
Fernandez followed up Doane's double with an infield single, bringing Ozanne to the plate. Unwilling to gamble with Ozanne, the Wildcats walked Ozanne to get to Julie Wambold who hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Doane.
Syracuse wasn't able to score until Dewes walked again, once again setting the table for the top of the lineup as Doane followed up with a single up the middle. Fernandez capitalized with a single to right, scoring Dewes and Doane to take a 5-0 lead in the fourth.
Over the course of the next 1.2 innings, Bethune-Cookman was able to pick up three runs off of O'Hara who handed the ball to Jocelyn Cater who gave up a run, but closed out the game for the save, giving O'Hara and Syracuse the 5-4 victory.
Jacksonville Walks Off… Again
Ozanne began the game just as she did the previous contest with a solo jack to center field to give Cater a one-run lead to work with until the Dolphins were able to tie the game in the fourth. Despite giving up a run the previous half inning, the top of the lineup produced a four-run fifth inning.
Dewes walked with one out in the fifth, giving Doane another RBI opportunity that she did not miss out on. The leadoff hitter struck a double to straightaway center to score Dewes. Ozanne then followed up with her second home run of the game to bring in two. After Wambold reached on an error and O'Hara singled, Cater gave herself some insurance with an RBI single.
Syracuse took its 5-1 lead into the seventh and was able to score a run before being faced with two outs. Just an out away from a 5-2 victory, Jacksonville roped a bases clearing double to center to tie the game at five and send the game into extras.
Cater singled to right-center, immediately scoring Annie Toczynski to start the inning but one was all the Orange would get as Jacksonville was faced with a one-run deficit in the bottom of the eighth. Cater was able to get two outs in the inning but a double tied the game at six and the very next batter homered to left to walk off with the victory, 8-6.
