NEW YORK – Four Orange men's lacrosse players have been named to the 2015 Tewaaraton Award Watch List. In all, 50 players were named to the watch list that was announced at the Union Club in New York City by The Tewaaraton Award Foundation. This year's winner will be recognized in a ceremony May 28 at the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
Â
The Orange's four potential candidates matched Notre Dame for the most of any school.
Â
A 2015 Inside Lacrosse Preseason First Team All-American, Rice has six goals and six assists through three games. He has scored at least one goal in 18 straight games dating back to last season, the sixth-longest active streak in the nation. For his career, Rice has 150 career points (66 goals, 84 assists). His 84 career assists is fifth among active players.
Â
Staats is second on the team in scoring with 13 points, including a team-best seven assists. He ranks fourth in the ACC in assists per game (2.33) and seventh in points per game (4.33). Staats was named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Second Team in December.
Â
Donahue leads the Orange in both goals (11) and points (15). He is eighth nationally in goals per game (3.67) and has already been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season. Donahue registered six points, including a season-high five goals, in last week's 12-9 victory against Army. He has a 26-game point streak and reached the 100-point mark for his career with two goals and three assists Feb. 15 versus Cornell.
Â
Like Rice, Mullins is a 2015 Inside Lacrosse Preseason First Team All-American. Mullins is second on the team in caused turnovers (4) and ranks sixth all-time at Syracuse with 35 career turnovers forced. He anchors an Orange defense that is currently ninth in the NCAA in goals allowed (7.33 per game). Against Cornell, Mullins guarded All-American Matt Donovan and held him without a point.
Â
The Tewaaraton Award has been presented each year since 2001. Syracuse attackman Mike Leveille won it in 2008. He was the second Orange player to do so, joining 2002 and 2004 Tewaaraton winner Mike Powell. Albany's Miles and Lyle Thompson shared the award last year after leading the Great Danes to the NCAA quarterfinals.
