Orange pick up third-straight win
The No. 53 Syracuse tennis team came out strong on their home court Saturday afternoon to sweep Albany 7-0 at the Drumlins Tennis Center. Picking up its third straight win, the Orange move to 5-1 on the season.
The Orange got off to a fast start taking the doubles point for the third time this season, with the tandem of Rhiann Newborn and Breanna Bachini defeating Cheryl Kukkonen and Dajana Ognjenovic 6-1, and Valeria Salazar and Komal Safdar defeating Kirsten Scott and Chassidy King 6-3.
Amanda Rodgers and Nicole Mitchell lost to Ana Glumac and Alba Sala 4-6.
'Cuse kept the momentum going in singles play as well, as Nicole Mitchell handed a quick defeat to Chassidy King 6-1, 6-3. Komal Safdar also defeated her opponent Mireille Hermans 6-1, 6-3.
Rhiann Newborn defeated Alba Sala 6-3, 6-4, while Amanda Rodgers defeated Dajana Ognjenovic in a hard fought match 6-4, 6-4.
Valeria Salazar defeated Ana Glumac 6-4, 6-3.
Breanna Bachini fought hard through a tiebreaker and completed the sweep, defeating Kirsten Scott 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
The Orange's match with Farleigh Dickenson that was scheduled for Sunday has been postponed.
