Jocelyn Cater throws another gem in 5-1 win but ‘Cuse falls in 10-8 slugfest

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orange (9-12) offense scored 13 runs in two games, winning the first against Yale (0-3), 5-1 and falling late to Pennsylvania (5-4), 10-8. Sydney O'Hara was locked in at the plate, anchoring the offense with a five-for-seven day, two home runs, three runs and six runs batted in.

The Highlights Against Yale

Jocelyn Cater earned the win in another outstanding outing in which she allowed just one run in six innings with six strikeouts and just two walks.
Lindsay Taylor battled back from injury to make her first appearance in 2015 and threw a scoreless seventh. All three outs were weak ground balls.
O'Hara provided two runs and two runs batted in with a double and a home run.
Maddi Doane just missed a home run with a triple off of the right field fence, scoring two.
Corinne Ozanne doubled and was pinch ran for by Taylor Falkner who scored on O'Hara's homer.
Annie Toczynski picked up two hits, a run and her first collegiate RBI.
Alyssa Dewes singled and later scored on Doane's triple.

The Highlights Against Penn

Six of Syracuse's eight runs were scored by the top five batters in the lineup.
Julie Wambold finished two-for-four with two runs and two RBI and a double.
O'Hara launched her second home run of the day in a three-for-four effort with a run and four RBI.
Sammy Fernandez picked up an RBI single and later scored.
Toczynski continued her offensive success, finishing the game one-for-two with a run scored.
Ozanne singled, walked and later scored a run for the Orange.
Dewes singled and scored a run.
Doane scored a run after being hit by a pitch.
Lindsey Larkin threw a scoreless fifth in relief.

Team Effort Defeats Yale, 5-1
Syracuse jumped on the board in the second when Annie Toczynski singled to left with runners on first and third to score O'Hara who doubled to begin the inning. Yale retaliated in the top of the third, tagging Jocelyn Cater for one with a single to tie the game.

Corinne Ozanne roped a one-out double to left center in the bottom of the third. Yale was able to get the second out, bringing O'Hara to the plate. Locked in, O'Hara left the yard with a two run shot to take a 3-1 lead. The Orange wasn't done in the fourth as it scored two on a triple off the fence by Maddi Doane, scoring Toczynski and Alyssa Dewes.

Cater shut down the Bulldogs the next two innings, handing the ball off to Lindsay Taylor in the seventh. In her first appearance of 2015, coming off injury, Taylor was lights out with three soft ground ball outs to close the door and win the game, 5-1.

Late Effort By Penn Steals The Win
O'Hara continued her offensive success after Ozanne and Wambold reached base with two down, launching a three-run home run to right field. However, the lead was short lived as Penn answered in the bottom of the inning with a three-run homer to tie the game.

The Orange exploded in the second, beginning with Toczynski and Dewes reaching base and Sammy Fernandez scoring Toczynski on an infield single. A wild pitch scored Dewes and Wambold doubled to left clearing the bases for two RBI. O'Hara knocked in the fifth run of the inning with a single to score Wambold from third. The outburst gave Syracuse an 8-3 advantage heading to the bottom of the second.
Penn began to chip away at the lead, scoring a run on a walk with the bases loaded in the second and a run on an error, pulling within three of Syracuse.

Penn then surged back to take a 10-8 lead with a five-run sixth. The Quakers began the inning with five-straight hits, scoring four and added one more with one down on a single to center. Penn brought in its ace to seal the deal in the seventh, saving the 10-8 comeback for the Quakers.
