Senior Martin Hehir to compete in 3000-meter Championships
Senior Martin Hehir will compete for a national championship on Saturday in the 3000-meter run.
The Washingtonville, N.Y. native qualified for the event with a time of 7:53.15 at the ACC Championships a day after he won gold in the 5k. His performance at the meet earned him ACC meet MVP – a first for Syracuse as a program.
Hehir is seeded 10th-of-16 qualifiers in the event, which will take place in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
This is Hehir's first trip to indoor nationals, after taking 21st in the 10k at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last season.
The senior will have to wait to get his race underway as the 3000-meters is the second-to-last event of the Championships. The race is scheduled to get underway at 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, with a live stream being available through ESPN3.Â
