Martin Hehir finished seventh in the 3000-meters for the Orange
Senior Martin Hehir took seventh in the 3000-meters at the NCAA Indoor Championships in what was the best finish for a member of the Orange in three years at the event.
Hehir finished the event in 8:03.38, just over four seconds off the pace of Champion Eric Jenkins. The Washingtonville, N.Y. native turned in the best performance since Jarret Eaton's national championship in the 60-meter hurdles in 2012.
The run capped off a stellar indoor season for Hehir, who took home ACC Indoor Championship MVP honors – a first for a member of the Orange -- after winning the 5k and qualifying for the national meet during a second-place finish in the 3000-meters.
Saturday's performance was the latest success for Hehir this year after he was previously named ACC Cross Country Performer of the Year after winning the ACC title in cross country and earned USTFCCCA All-America honors later in the fall. He also earned ACC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Orange will begin its outdoor season on April 3, when the members of the team will compete in three separate meets, the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational, the Stanford Invitational and the Auburn Tiger Classic.
