Looking for a spot on the World Championship team
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Former Syracuse University men's rower Mike Gennaro '11 will participate in the 2015 National Selection Regatta 1 beginning on Wednesday on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. The selection events will be the first opportunity for athletes to take a step toward making the 2015 U.S. National Team that will compete at the 2015 World Rowing Championships from Aug. 29 – Sept. 6 in Aiguebelette, France.
Â
A victory at the National Selection Regatta 1 offers a chance to race at one of the 2015 World Rowing Cup events and an opportunity to be nominated to the world championship team. For the men's pair, a top-seven finish at a World Rowing Cup will earn them a spot on the national team. If there are fewer than 12 entries, they must finish within the top 50 percent of the field.
Â
Gennaro and Robert Munn of Redmond, Wash. will compete in the men's pair. The duo will compete against 11 other crews. 13 of the athletes competing have represented the United State at the 2014 World Rowing Championships.
Â
The Havertown, Pa. native has had a strong international career. This past year, Gennaro was named the USRowing National Team Athlete of the Year. In 2014, Gennaro helped the men's four to a runner-up finish at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Â
Live video will be available on Saturday, courtesy of USRowing. In addition, live results for all four days of racing will be available here.Â
