Men's rowing to honor Rob and Sue Edson
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University men's rowing program will dedicate two boats honoring Rob and Sue Edson following the Goes Trophy race against Cornell and Navy on Saturday, April 18 at the James A. Ten Eyck Memorial Boathouse in Liverpool, N.Y.
Â
"It is our great honor to dedicate these boats after the Edson family," head men's rowing coach Dave Reischman said. "Rob and Sue both have had a tremendous impact on all the sports programs at Syracuse and none more so than men's and women's rowing. Rob was our long-time sport administrator and was so proud to be working at his alma mater. Rob's family was so very important to him and we could think of no better way to honor him than name two of our boats after him and Sue."
Â
Rob Edson worked for Syracuse Athletics for 21 years before becoming the athletic director at Onondaga Community College in 2011. Rob started as an administrative intern at his alma mater in 1991 and worked his way up to senior associate director of athletics for administration and chief financial officer. He supervised the men's soccer, men's rowing, and women's rowing programs during his time at Syracuse. Rob passed away unexpectedly at the age of 45 in September 2013.
Â
Sue Edson, Rob's wife, has worked for Syracuse Athletics since 1990. She started as an assistant sports information director after graduating from Syracuse in 1990. Sue became the director of athletic communications in 1997 and was promoted to associate director of athletics in 2014 after serving as an assistant director of athletics for communications since 2006. She has received multiple recognitions for excellence in her field, including an induction into the College Sports Information Directors of America Hall of Fame in 2012. Sue and Rob have two children, Thomas and Tracey.
Racing will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning against Cornell and Navy. The dedication of the two boats will begin following the trophy presentation, which is currently scheduled for 9:30 a.m. For directions to the James A. Ten Eyck Memorial Boathouse, please click here.
