
Bleakney Leads off Field Hockey Signing Class

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Over the coming weeks Syracuse University head field hockey coach Ange Bradley is announcing the program's 2015 signing class. Be sure the check Cuse.com as the Orange unveils its incoming class one-by-one.

In today's edition, Bradley is happy to announce the addition of Jennifer Bleakney, a forward from Columbia, Md.

"Jenny is an incredible athlete and I expect her to raise the bar on our standard of team fitness," commented Bradley. "This spring, she set a personal record in track and field by running one mile in 4:59. Aside from being a great athlete, Jenny is a member of the United States U19 indoor national team."

Bleakney is a four-year letterwinner at Atholton High School under head coach Martie Dyer. In her final three scholastic seasons, she totaled 67 goals and 43 assists. She set the county record with 31 goals and 16 assists en route to 2014Â Baltimore Sun Player of the Year accolades. In addition, Bleakney earned all-country, all-metro, and all-state honors at Atholton.

The Columbia, Md. native has experience on the international level, playing on the United States U17 national team from 2013-14. Bleakney also has played on the indoor circuit, playing on the U17 and U19 indoor national squads in 2012-13 and 2014-15. This year, she has played in the Four Nations Tournament and Can-Am Games with the U19 club.

"Jenny is skillful and a strong finisher in the circle," added Bradley. "We expect Jenny to contribute to our team in the front five this fall and look forward to her joining our Syracuse family."

In addition to field hockey, Bleakney is a member of the indoor and outdoor track and field teams at Atholton. She is a four-time state champion, winning three titles during the 2014 outdoor track and field season. In the 2015 indoor season, she won the 800 meters state championship, clocking in at 2:18.
The daughter of Debbie and Scott, Bleakney has excelled in the classroom, as well. She has been an active member of the National Honor Society and Future Educators Association Honor Society. In addition, she has earned Gold Honor Roll and Principal Honor Roll during her time at Atholton.
